Dr Elzabe Durr-Fitschen

Dr Elzabe Durr-Fitschen has been in private practice for 12 years. She has an honours degree in Psychology, a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work and D Phil in Social Work*. In addition, she has a 3 year diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and postgraduate training in divorce mediation. Elzabe is a member of FAMAC and has a keen interest in the field of mediation, and the implementation of the Children's Act of 2007 with specific regards to the role of the social worker as mediator as stipulated in the Act. She also has an interest in children's rights and ensuring that the voice of the child be heard in divorce proceedings as described by the Act.

Elzabe practices individual, couple and family therapy from her consulting room in Claremont. Before commencing private practice, she gained many years experience at the State Welfare Departments, Child Welfare Society, FAMSA, the Sexual Offences Court and the Family Advocate's Office. Elzabe has lectured at the three Western Cape Universities and presented many workshops, mainly in issues on sexual abuse, and lately on parenting plans. Having been part of the highly successful pilot project of the world-first Sexual Offences Court, she featured in many magazines, on TV and radio programmes. She trained professionals nationally and internationally, including the magistrates, police, doctors, social workers and psychologists in child sexual abuse issues.

A generalist with vast experience but specialised interests, Elzabe has mainly two areas of expertise:

Relationship and Divorce: relationship problems, separation, and divorce (mediation/parenting plans/care and contact)

Sexuality: child sexual exploration and abuse, sexual identity and gay related issues, and adult lack of sexual desire.

* Elzabe's Doctoral dissetation is called : "A phenomenological inquiry into the lived experience of low sexual desire in women: implications for clinical practice". This dissertation is available on the website for any interested readers.

Anne Cawood, author of "Children Need Boundaries - Effective Discipline Without Punishment", "Teenagers Need Boundaries - Effective Discipline Without Punishment" and "Toddlers Need Boundaries - Effective Discipline Without Punishment"

Anne Cawood is a registered social worker with many years' experience. Currently working as a school counsellor at Herschel Preparitory School as well as running a private practice in the afternoons, she also worked at Child Welfare and Parent Centre for manyl years. Trained to run Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) she's been involved in developing and presenting workshops on a host of parenting related topics, from Adjustment to Parenthood, to Discipline at Home and in the Classroom, Step-parenting and The Effects of Divorce on Children. Anne is a popular speaker and is often invited to do presentations at schools, parenting workshops and on radio shows. She has written many parenting related articles for the print media, and presented lectures and workshops at the UCT Summer and Winter Schools. In her work she places a strong emphasis on problem-solving and life-skills training, and her workshops for children on topics related to self-esteem, peer relationships and assertiveness are very popular.

Anne is married with four children and four grandchildren and lives in Cape Town. She regards her role as a parent as having been the most challenging, daunting, rewarding, exciting, exhausting and emotionally satisfying aspect of her adult life, with endless and ongoing opportunities for personal growth. Her passion and enthusiasm for parenting is infectious and will motivate even the most reluctant parent to work towards a clear understanding of and a confident, relaxed and consistent approach to effective discipline without punishment.
